STINGZ™ welcomes Black Pearls on board

STINGZ™ is pleased to unveil the official Black Pearls Women’s Rugby Club Home Jersey for the 2020/21 season.

The club was founded in 2018 in Uganda, and is the sister club to the Black Pirates Rugby Club.

STINGZ™ is excited to welcome the Black Pearls on board. The ladies are the defending champions of the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) 7’s competition and the club boast a number of the Uganda 7’s and 15’s national team players.

The Black Pearls have an average age of just 20 and the good ship is captained by Grace Auma, the 2016 USPA female Rugby player of the year.

Also within it’s ranks is Emily Lekuru, who was the 2014 URU Under-19 player of the year, the 2014 Under-19 Safari 7’s MVP as well as the 2018 USAP female player of the year. Emily is also the first Ugandan woman to play club Rugby in New Zealand, following her three-month stint in Christchurch last year.

The Black Pearls’ home jersey is primarily black with red and white accents – the original club colours of the Black Pirates Rugby Club – although black and red are predominantly used, as these are two of the more intimidating colours.

Upon receiving the design brief for the Black Pearls, the first visions that appeared were not just of mere pirate ships, but Pirates of the Caribbean-style, fantastical, ornate ships with intimidating hulls and sails. This inspired the custom design team at STINGZ™ to incorporate the use of the tribal patterns intertwined with the Black Pearls’ crest to create a prominent, front and back panel watermark, giving the jersey an even more intimidating and mysterious look.

On the back of the collar is the Ugandan flag while sitting at the centre of the front panel is the logo of title sponsors, global fashion apparel brand Giordano.

Good luck for the coming season, ladies!

Special thanks also to our friends over at GM Design Worx, for the awesome new unveiling graphics!
