Case Study: Kiribati National Team – Football at the Edge of the World

The Kiribati Islands are among the most geographically isolated nations on earth, and that isolation became a central theme in this STINGZ™ unique football shirt design.

Cultural elements embedded in to the design include wave-inspired watermark patterns symbolising the Pacific Ocean, traditional geometric motifs layered subtly into the fabric and a colour palette drawn from sea, sand, and sky. 

The home jersey is inspired by Kiribati’s national flag, with a red shoulder and upper chest panel transcending into an orange sunset hue, white waves in the mid section before moving into a dark navy lower panel.

Sitting above the waves are the rising sun with a frigate bird flying over, a nod to the layout of the national flag. 

A Polynesian-inspired tribal pattern is watermarked on the front and back panels to complete the bespoke design.

The Nauru home jersey is inspired by island nation's national flag, coming in a predominantly blue colourway, which represents the Pacific Ocean. There is a gold band across the chest which represents the narrow gold stripe of the flag, and which in turn represents the equator.

At the centre of the chest band is the 12 pointed white star that also appears on the flag and represents the island nation’s twelve original tribes. A Polynesian-inspired tribal pattern is watermarked on the front and back panels to complete the bespoke design.

Designing for the Federated States of Micronesia required balancing diverse island identities with a shared national story.

The Federated States of Micronesia home jersey features white and pacific blue hoops in a wave design with contrast navy henley collar and sleeves. Adopting a negative space design approach, Micronesia-inspired tribal patterns are watermarked alternatively into the hoops.
